Echorouk's Forum : “Japanese report on possible quake in Algiers , not a novelty”, experts say

Taking the floor during a weekly Echorouk newspaper Forum, several experts in seismology stressed the outdated character of a Japanese report pertaining to the possibility of a major quake in Algiers soon describing it as a “scenario to be counted among hundreds of others”.

According to the head of the regional technical centre of the western province of Chlef Azzouz Hamid, a copy of this report has circulated in Algeria for about 2 years now at the level of the services concerned including the environment ministry, the civil protection units, the CRAAG and the CTC.

This report, he said, was conveyed to the relevant authorities for an in-depth study and was supposed to be published in the national news media outlets in a bid to sensitize the Algerian population to the occurrence of this sort of natural phenomenon.

Another expert attending, Lout Bonatiro asserted, for his part, that Algeria is in no need of such reports, drafted overseas, and could take all the necessary steps on her own to deal with this kind of natural phenomena, be it in the capital Algiers or elsewhere in the country.
